On 31st May, 2026, REREC and Kenya Power hosted His Excellency President William Ruto on the first day of his development tour of Wajir County. The President was briefed on the just completed 54km power extension and electrification project connecting Hebaswein–Lagdima–Qanchara–Samattah and Lagbogol.
The project has been implemented by REREC at a cost of Ksh. 266 million. Through 14 distribution transformers, the project connects approximately 1,700 households to electricity, significantly expanding electricity access to Wajir West and Wajir South.
The project is set to transform the lives of residents by supporting local businesses, improving access to education and healthcare services, enhancing security and creating opportunities for economic growth. For this previously underserved area, access to electricity will play a critical role in improving livelihoods and accelerating socio-economic development.
